People who are having fibromyalgia itching usually cause a lot of suffering from it. It is a usual but relatively less known symptom of fibromyalgia. There is no as such study of what actually causes it or how it can be cured.
Fibromyalgia itching seems to be worse than pain for people who are having it. People can’t sleep at night because usually this itching can strike even in the middle of the night. And the itching doesn’t get better by scratching it while the skin is getting more damaged. It is a lot difficult to live with constant itching.
This case is true when doctors fail to know what causes this itch and are contemptuous. Their focus is on curing fibromyalgia and they usually treat this itching as something that can be avoided by giving some ineffective anti histamine.
This means that patient will have to find certain ways that will prove effective for their itching. It turned out that moisturizers are helpful in treating fibromyalgia itching. How are they helpful? Are they found to be a good treatment?
Working of Moisturizers:
it should be noticed that is not that simple. Three different kinds of moisturizers are there and all of them work in different ways. The working of moisturizers is that they keep water closer to the cells present in your skin. As a result, this will stop from drying out and releasing some reactions of nerves that will make you feel itchy. But every moisturizer has a different working.
That kind of moisturizers that works when they trap moisture against your skin so that it cannot spurt. As everyone knows that our skin produces moisture naturally that is released it sweating or just through evaporation.

Usually, they are made from oils, waxes, or synthetic chemicals that are known to water-repellent and can be seen on the skin. These moisturizers are effective. Restoring natural barrier between your skin and environment is usually done by emollients. See, there is a linkage between proteins and skin cell that keeps bacteria out and water in. there is a time when this barrier is broke down due to which your skin dries out.
Such chemicals are embedded in emollients that are bonded with the skin and are trapped in moisture, due to which everything gets in balance.
They are not that much effective but the good point is that they are not noticeable when someone sees your skin.
The working of humectants is different than the other two. They pull the water out of the air instead of locking the water into the surface of your skin, in normal environments; it is useful because a lot of moisture is available in the air. It is less effective in dry environments because less water is available to pull in.
There is a plus point of these moisturizers that they are less goopy than the other ones. And the problem of dry air can be solved by a home humidifier.
Dry skin leads to itching many of the times because of the misbalancing of moisture in the skin and thus the skin starts to crack and is then irritating due to which itching starts. Itching itself is reason for aggravated skin cells that trigger the nerves and then move to the brain. The brain interprets it as a feeling of itch. So, itching starts in the brain first and after that in the skin itself.
This case is true when itching is a symptom of fibromyalgia. Because the source is not the dry skin itself. Some evidence is there that shows fibromyalgia as an immune disorder, and inflammation is the cause of itching. There is also a belief that itching can be caused by damaged nerve cells that usually triggers the itching cycle in brain, which means dry skin is not the reason in symptoms of itching.
But people having this itching find that if the skin is well moisturized, it does help them. If your skin is healthy, it might easily reduce itchiness. The damaged nerve cells can be soothe out by well moisturized skin. Or not triggering itching signals by moisturizing your skin. It reduces the itch.
Avoiding dehydration is the main step for a healthy skin.

Try to avoid environmental factors that dry out your skin. Excessive use of hot showers of central heating can dehydrate your skin quickly. The natural enemies of healthy skin are heat and dryness. Try to ignore such things that make it worse. Lukewarm showers are good.
